The marine environment creates unique challenges, for which DC Electronics has developed a range of electric power steering products, suitable for all types of vessels, crewed or USV (Uncrewed Surface Vessel).
DC Electronics has a range of standard actuators designed to be fitted inline with shaft, cable or chain driven systems, to add power assist or allow the addition of remote control for autopilot or uncrewed use.
DC Electronics also has a range of Direct Drive actuators that can be fitted to control a rudder or outboard motor, eradicating the need for a mechanical link to the helm. To replace a traditional ship’s wheel, we can supply either an electronic helm or a joystick (depending upon your preference). This enables SBW (Steer-by-Wire) capability, which simplifies the process of docking and low speed manoeuvring. Going hard over on the rudder can be made speed sensitive or manually switchable, allowing for the number of turns needed at the helm to be altered as appropriate.
